We are Bo and Patrick Thonies, happily married and we have 2 wonderful children. We live in the Netherlands and love to go out to dinner, visit theme parks, going to concerts and gaming.
In 2019 a friend of ours introduced us to 3D printing and told us "You HAVE to get one you'll love the technology and what you can make with it." And so we did. After a long search on which printer we bought a Prusa Mk3S, which we still have and use to this day. We learned a lot, discovered what to do with it and after a little bit we started to design our own things, also by learning various programs like Blender and Fusion3d.
We started Fillywinkel in 2023 because we had so many designs pretty much doing nothing when Bo got the idea about selling them. She started an Etsy store and made everything work properly. After a very successful stint on Etsy, we decided to get our own store and do everything ourselves, mainly because Etsy takes so much commission. We had to inflate prices to turn a half decent profit. We were not fans of it, but Etsy was a good way to learn the ropes with a safety net. Now the adventure continues, our own store.
Bo does all the social media, finances, website updates and personal contact. Patrick does all the designing of the Fillywinkel originals and the operation and maintenance of the 3D printers. We primarily use PLA filament, which is partially recycled material in a wide variety of colors. The spool of filament thread is fed into the printer and through a computed process creates anything you programmed it to do. The Bambu Printers are equipped to print in multicolor, we can print items up to 12 colors at once at this moment, but that is a very time consuming and expensive undertaking.
We also have two resin printers, both from Creality, the Halot 1, and the LD002 Mostly used for wargaming miniatures and really intricate designs that a FDM printer struggles with.
Everything you see in the store is printed by us. We are open for custom commissions as well.
Our packaging is simple but safe. Being aware of the environment and the dangers of global warming, We decided to not use plastics, and only bio degradable or recyclable packaging materials.
A simple packaging also means we can keep the prices a bit lower, this means we can offer a fair price and you pay for the product and not so much for packaging what will end up in the bin.
Of course we want to make sure your items arrive at their destination the exact same way we sent it, so we take great care in selecting the proper packaging for every product. This means our boxes are a proper fit, all items are wrapped in packing paper and the box is lined with shredded cardboard.
